It’s believed the store on Newcastle Street was rammed by a small truck about 3am.
Police say a man then entered the store, appearing to remove items from the shelves.
Speaking at about 7am this morning, Monaro Models and Hobbies owner Terry Griffiths said the shop’s till was still buried underneath the rubble caused by the crash and it was difficult to tell exactly what had been stolen
‘‘Look at this mess,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s hard enough for me to get the guys to sweep the floor.’’
A small truck was found burnt out on Hazel Street in Oaks Estate later this morning.
AFP forensic officers have analysed the truck, and police are still investigating whether it is linked to the ram raid.
Forensics were also at the hobby shop this morning.
ACT Policing are asking anyone who witnessed the raid to or who may have information to contact Crime
