Police say the woman was leaving Woolworths at about 5pm when the hatchback pulled up next to her.
A man opened the front passenger-side door and tried to pull her handbag into the car.
The woman resisted but the men sped away in the car with her handbag, including her wallet and keys, knocking her to the ground in the process.
She was later taken to Canberra Hospital with grazing to her hands and knees.
The car was last seen driving along Heard Street in Mawson, and is described as an older model red hatchback with yellow and black NSW registration plates.
The driver of the car had olive skin, short dark curly hair and a goatee.
The passenger had olive skin and an eyebrow piercing, and was aged in his late 20s to early 30s.
