Jie Ping Bao, 25, of Sydney, had allegedly been harassing her former partner after the couple split up, following the woman and her new girlfriend around Canberra and calling her 57 times on the night of the stabbing.
Police say Bao tried to jump off the balcony of the sixth-floor apartment she had shared with her former partner before attacking the woman with a steak knife.
The woman suffered repeated stab wounds and a punctured lung.
Bao has pleaded not guilty to two charges of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm and recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.
A statement of facts for the case was tendered in the ACT Magistrates Court at a case management hearing last week.
According to the document, Bao and the alleged victim had had a two-year relationship which broke down in October last year. Bao had moved out of the Belconnen apartment they had shared with a housemate.
The woman told police she and her new girlfriend had returned from a weekend in Sydney when she noticed Bao following them to dinner in Dickson and to her girlfriend's home. When she confronted Bao about the incident, the defendant denied following her but then allegedly rang the woman's mobile phone 57 times, calling her until 3am on October 31.
Police allege Bao then went to the Oracle apartment complex at 4am and repeatedly buzzed the intercom before screaming at her ex-girlfriend's window from the car park.
To prevent any further disturbance to neighbours, the woman allowed Bao to come up into the apartment, where she told her the relationship was over and she didn't love Bao any more.
An argument ensued and Bao allegedly became upset when she ran into the bedroom and saw her ex's girlfriend in the bed.
The alleged victim told police Bao threatened to kill herself and tried to jump off the balcony but was pulled back. Police say Bao then ran into the apartment, grabbed a steak knife from the kitchen and attacked her ex, stabbing the woman in the chest and the back.
The woman allegedly managed to wrench the knife away but Bao grabbed another knife and continued to stab her.
She was eventually restrained by the two other women in the apartment and police were called.
The alleged victim was taken to Canberra Hospital with stab wounds to the chest, back and hands.
