Mark Leslie Anderson was originally charged with attempted murder over the alleged attack on the woman in June 2010.
Mr Anderson is accused of attacking his former wife with the electrical device at a home in Farrer on June 17. He then allegedly used an extension cord to try to strangle her.
Mr Anderson had originally been charged with attempted murder, but that charge has since been dropped.
He faced court briefly last week for a pre-trial directions hearing.
Mr Anderson was arraigned on charges relating to endangering human life, threatening to kill another person, trespass with intent to harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and contravening a protection order.
Mr Anderson pleaded not guilty to all charges on Friday.
