An outbreak of blue-green algae has shut down Lake Tuggeranong, with the Environment and Sustainable Development directorate issuing an extreme-alert warning.

All primary-contact recreation has been disallowed in the lake, including swimming, diving, waterskiing and windsurfing.
Activities that do not require full-body exposure to the tainted water, such as rowing or boating, are still permitted, but only by experienced participants.
Environmental Planning and Assessment ACT delegate Daniel Walters said the outbreak was probably the result of storms.
