The fire started in the coffee roasting machine at Two Before Ten and was reported to emergency services at 7.05pm.
A number of businesses, including the Subway store next door, were evacuated after the fire, but no one was injured.
A staff member initially tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher but was unsuccessful.
ACT fire crews arrived shortly and quickly extinguished the fire.
The Emergency Services Agency released a statement saying the businesses had been evacuated due to "extensive smoke logging throughout Canberra House".
"We're now just doing smoke ventilation to get rid of the smoke and doing atmospheric testing on the surrounding shops," commander Todd Bourne said at the scene.
He said Two Before Ten had suffered smoke damage as a result of the fire, as well as some of the surrounding businesses.
The Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform attended the scene as well as three pumpers and a commander sent from the fire brigade.
