In recent weeks Mr Fawke had been surrounded at his Dunlop home by walking frames, walking sticks and wheelchairs that were about to be packed into a shipping container and sent to Samoa.
Mr Fawke, a 69-year-old former police officer, even added his own personal touch: 100 tennis balls signed by pupils of Macgregor Primary School.
''The world doesn't need philanthropists as much as it needs people who are inspired to help others,'' he said.
Mr Fawke, who spends his days organising Rotary barbecues or volunteering at schools, said the Samoan shipment was organised by Wal Cooper, a colleague at the Rotary Club of Belconnen, while help was provided by the Australian Federal Police and Technical Aid to the Disabled. .
The shipment includes 12 walking sticks, nine walking frames, eight wheelchairs and five sets of crutches.
