The team behind Blue World Order, directors Ché Baker and Dallas Bland and producers Christian Doran and Sarah Mason, are all finalists in ScreenACT's first Feature Film Producer Pod, a competition for filmmakers to compete for a $300,000 loan to produce, distribute and promote a feature film.

The team, who have all worked within the film industry locally, nationally and internationally, have received resounding support since Blue World Order was born out of one weekend of filming in Canberra and they are now embarking on a ''crowd funding campaign'' to raise $100,000 before December 20 to fund the film, which has already gained attention from international distributors.

Possible spin-off TV and computer games series from Dallas' original short film have already been discussed, an achievement the team says they owe to the direction and advice offered by ScreenACT.

''After every idea we have received feedback, being told whether this worked or that worked and whether or not some parts would be commercially viable,'' Sarah said.

While the final script is still in development, Blue World Order - the feature film, is essentially a story peppered with sci-fi, nuclear war and a government-issued virus released to control the population.

To kickstart fund-raising, the team has organised Future Fair, a cocktail function that bestselling science fiction novelist Matthew Reilly will attend on Thursday.

''There is no reason we can't make a world-class sci-fi film in Canberra. The BWO team has a world-class vision and the talent to make it happen, so that's why I'm very happy to support this project,'' Reilly said.

Reilly has also loaned the team his original Back to the Future DeLorean DMC-12 to generate interest in their work. The car may feature in the film.

Ché, who has just returned from working on Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, drove the DeLorean from Sydney and while he didn't manage to reach ''88 miles per hour'' he mastered opening the wing doors at many fast-food drive-thru.

''I would recommend the BWO team as a major investment for Australia's filmmaking future,'' Oscar-winning cinematographer for The Lord of the Rings Andrew Lesnie said.

''We want more than anything to prove that we have talent in Canberra to do something better than average. Something people will say 'that was awesome', not 'that was great .. for a local film','' Christian said.
