A ruptured gas line has forced evacuations from the University of Canberra this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Monana Street in Bruce about 3.20pm.

A 50mm gas line was ruptured, causing a gas leak.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus had isolated the leak by 3.55pm.

Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

Gas line has been repaired.
