A concert at the ANU School of Music on Tuesday will bring together first-time violin players from Goulburn Public School and professional musicians from the Canberra Symphony Orchestra.

The youngsters will play side by side with professional violinists at the world premiere of The Goulburn Concerto, a commissioned piece by Sean O'Boyle.
Anita Collins, the teacher and conductor of the program and assistant professor of music and arts education at the University of Canberra, said the piece was composed to give the children an equally important role.
"They have a simplified part, but for them it's not simple at all, it's really pushing them musically to improve their technique," Dr Collins said.
She said the professional players would play parts suited to their expertise.
"Something that caters for both of them and while being a great piece of music, [it] is also an educational experience for these kids who have never stepped foot in a concert hall," she said.
The concert is part of the Goulburn Strings Project, which aims to engage primary pupils from Goulburn Public School in classical music.
Dr Collins said Goulburn was an economically depressed area but the school was doing amazing things with its pupils.
"It's something that will completely change their perspective on not just music, but on what they can do with their lives, where they can go," she said.
"It's just going to broaden their horizons."
Brendell Guiao, 10, a year five pupil, said the youngsters were looking forward to playing.
"It's fun. We get to do things like private schools but this school is public, so we are very lucky," he said.
Ciara Humphries, 10, said playing the violin was easy once she got used to it.
"All you have to get used to is the stage fright," she said.
The concert starts at 10.30am in Llewellyn Hall at the ANU School of Music.
