ACT Neighbourhood Watch this week recognised Tuggeranong Police Station's officer-in-charge Sergeant Daryl Neit as part of this year's community awards.
Sergeant Neit was presented with the ACT Neighbourhood Watch Chief Police Officer's Award recognising his outstanding service to the community organisation.
A citation from ACT Neighbourhood Watch described Sergeant Neit as a consistent supporter of the group's activities ''who speaks with ease on crime prevention issues and fosters a two-way dialogue''.
''[His actions have] reinforced the strong relationship which exists between ACT Policing and ACT Neighbourhood Watch," the citation said.
Sergeant Neit said he was honoured to receive the award and would continue to work closely with the community.
The awards also recognised the contribution of Canberra resident Geoff Puleston, awarded 2013 Member of The Year award.
Mr Puleston established the Gleneagles Estate, Kambah Neighbourhood Watch group.
As a result of his efforts, membership within the community is now the second-highest in the ACT. A former member of the association's board of management and membership secretary, Mr Puleston remains an active volunteer who has forged important partnerships with other groups including the Murrumbidgee Golf Club and the Lions Youth Haven.
