Roads and Parking Minister Mick Gentleman will launch a community consultation period for the proposed bus station in Gungahlin Place, between Ernest Cavanagh Street and Hibberson Street.
"Creating effective interchange and layover facilities in the Gungahlin town centre is central to the successful operation of bus services and movement of traffic in the precinct," Mr Gentleman said.
"This location was selected following a planning review of options for providing a central bus station that will cater for all buses servicing Gungahlin which enter the town centre via five main routes."
Plans for the bus station include space to accommodate the expected number of buses operating during the peak period in 2031. As many as 80 buses would use the facility during the one-hour morning peak within 15 years.
Mr Gentleman said the preferred bus route would provide a consolidated bus service travelling through the Gungahlin town centre in Ernest Cavanagh Street, Gungahlin Place and The Valley Avenue.
"The new bus station will provide vital transport infrastructure for the area that will complement the delivery of light rail between Gungahlin and the city," he said. "It will maintain an active precinct while maintaining the town centre's open spaces in Gungahlin Place."
Plans include a central tree-lined space with shelters to protect commuters from the weather. The eastern side of the central median will host a southbound bus pick-up lane and a general traffic lane.
The same arrangement will be duplicated on the western side for traffic travelling to Gungahlin and to the light rail connection, which is set to be operational from 2019 or 2020.
Members of the public can provide comments on the Gungahlin Bus Station plan through an online feedback or in person at the Gungahlin Library.
Public information sessions will be held at The Marketplace in Gungahlin on Saturday, November 21 from 10am to 12pm, and on Saturday, November 28 from 1pm to 3pm.
The project team will discuss plans for the bus station and answer questions. Consultation on the bus station plan closes on Monday, December 14.
