Helicopter helps fight Bungendore blaze

FIRE tore through about 25 hectares outside Bungendore as both ground and air crews battled to contain the blaze on Saturday.

The NSW Rural Fire Service dispatched a helicopter to assist the six ground crews fighting the blaze at Aberfeldy Lane in the early evening.

No property was threatened during the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by lightning.

In the ACT, firefighters were called to a blaze in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, where a bushfire was burning in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Four crews brought the small fire under control near Corin Dam on Corin Road and were later called to a grass fire near the Farrer Ridge Nature Reserve in Wanniassa.

Small fires also broke out at Kowen Forest and Macgregor later in the day.

The fire danger rating for Canberra remains at very high.
