The fire, roughly 50 by 100 metres in size, was seen in a paddock along Long Gully Road early on Saturday night.
Rural Fire Service firefighters were called to the scene, and extinguished the fire about 6.10pm, without it causing any damage to property.
Police were then called, and say they discovered a ‘‘number of areas’’ that appeared suspicious.
Forensic officers came to the scene and conducted examinations.
ACT Policing is now calling for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website.
