ACT NOWaste education officer Trevar Chilvar said there has been an increase in users of the app, an average of 30 downloads each week.
"The app improves the way the ACT's waste management services can be communicated, providing users with up-to-date information at their fingertips and with push notifications where the user requests them," Mr Chilvar said.
Mr Chilvar said the application was a more effective way of communicating to residents as the distribution of calendars had been problematic the last few years, many houses were missed.
"The app allows Canberrans residents not only saves ACT ratepayers from the expense of ineffective distribution methods used in the past, but also allows them to opt in to the communication method that works best for them," he said.
The app allows residents to notify them the night before their bins are to be collected. It also provides information such as; what can be recycled, who to call if collection is missed, and where to find out more information about local recycling and waste management services.
The MyWaste app is available for free from www.my-waste.mobi, via iTunes and on Google Play. Calendars or magnets can also be downloaded from www.tams.act.gov.au, via email or call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
