The man, who cannot be named, gave evidence on Thursday, the fourth day of his ACT Supreme Court trial for allegedly raping his wife in April last year.

The wife alleges her husband became angry when she would not cook his dinner.

It is alleged they argued, and he began throwing items at the woman, before forcibly undressing and raping her.

The man is accused of spitting on her, throwing a condom in her face, biting her, and choking her.

He then allegedly took her phone from the room, but left his own in the bedroom.

The woman, from China, sent a text to a friend in Mandarin that translated to "please call the domestic violence, please help me".

But the husband, represented by lawyer Paul Edmonds, disputes that version of events.

He told the jury on Thursday, through an interpreter, that the woman had become angry with him because he wouldn't cook her dinner.

"She ordered me to cook, I did not agree. Then there was an argument," he said.

The man said he was sitting on his chair playing computer in the bedroom, when she began slapping him on the back of the head.

He said he grabbed her to stop her, and she scratched his arm.

"Then there was a cold war between us," he said, referring to a period of silence.

The man said they later had consensual sex, something he said was common after the pair fought.

Mr Edmonds asked: "At any point during sexual intercourse on the 13th of April last year, did your wife attempt to push you from her?"

He responded: "No."

Mr Edmonds again asked: "Or hit you?"

The accused responded in the negative again, and Mr Edmonds asked: "Or say to you 'I don't want it'?"

The husband said she had not.

Prosecutor Joel Hiscox began his cross-examination of the accused on Thursday.

He put it to him that he had believed it was his wife's job to cook him dinner.

"I suggest you thought it was [the complainant's] job to cook you your dinner," Mr Hiscox said.

The defendant replied: "No."

Earlier on Thursday, the court was shown ripped underwear worn by the accused on the night.

The Crown allege the underwear ripped during the rape, but the defence claims the woman ripped the underwear while undressing her husband for consensual sex.

The defence also claims the woman invented the allegations to secure a special Australian visa.

The cross-examination of the accused will continue on Friday before Chief Justice Helen Murrell.
