The twilight markets were previously held in the New Acton precinct, but large crowds at the last event in early July offered barely standing room only and left many market-goers struggling to find parking.
Hustle&Scout founder Tegan McAuley said after the last event, it was obvious they had outgrown NewActon.
“As much as we loved the NewActon precinct, it was no longer able to accommodate the growing crowds, and particularly the car parks to support them,” she said.
McAuley and The Forage founder Belinda Neame gathered feedback, and went on the lookout for a new venue to facilitate the growing crowds.
“For Hustle&Scout and The Forage, we are all about delivering an experience for people, so we want that experience to be as easy and enjoyable as possible,” McAuley said.
“It was not easy trying to locate a new space - large venues are unfortunately few and far between in Canberra.”
The duo came across across Hangar #48 in Fairbairn, and have secured the spot for the event with the support of The Canberra Airport.
“We were very excited to discover this rare gem, and believe the industrial aesthetics mixed with the historical charm will make for a perfect new venue,” she said.
“A public event such as this has never before been held in this building – until now.”
The move follows the success of Fashfest which was held in an empty commercial building at Brindabella Business Park.
The spacious location meant the fashion festival was able to accommodate its growing popularity over two years.
“Comparing the 2,500 visitors at our inaugural market to the near 5,500 visitors at our last market is not only testament to the growing cultural underbelly of Canberra, but is proof that Canberra is screaming out for more events that support this creative scene,” McAuley said.
The spring Hustle&Scout and The Forage will be held on September 27, with both events under the same roof at Hangar #48.
“There will now be 1,800-plus free car parks and ATMs onsite,” she said.
“We are working hard to make this our biggest and most impressive joint event yet - now we have more space, we can let our imaginations run wild.”
Hustle&Scout and The Forage is on September 27 from 2pm to 7pm at Hangar #48, 2-4 Point Cook Avenue, Fairbairn. Entry is free.
