He will be replaced at the National Australia Day Council by Chris Kirby, who has been prominent in the Indigenous sector.
Kirby is a former CEO of Supply Nation, connecting Indigenous businesses with corporate and government buyers, and also a former deputy chief executive officer of Reconciliation Australia.
Lasek brings plenty of media relations experience to his new role with the AFP, working from its national headquarters in Canberra.
He was the director of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations, headed communications for the Chief Minister's Department and the National Capital Authority and was chief-of-staff for WIN news in Canberra.
