But prosecutors dropped a charge of robbery and resisting arrest against the younger brother of Canberra Raiders and Queensland Maroons rugby league star Josh Papalii in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday.
A hearing on further three charges of assault and obstructing police has been adjourned until July for further negotiation.
Papalii, a former Raiders junior, was supported by two family members. He was committed to the ACT Supreme Court for sentence on the robbery charges.
Papalii robbed the FoodWorks supermarket in Pearce twice on the evening of December 13, telling staff he had a gun and asking for money. No gun was seen by the staff member. Papalii also attempted to rob the Five Star Supermarket in Spence on the same night.
"I want $200. I have a gun," Papalii said to a staff member.
He left after the employee refused to give him the money and asked to see the firearm. Police later discovered Papalii hiding in bushes in Pearce.
Police allege he threw an officer to the ground when they attempted to arrest him. The court has previously heard Papalii had consumed two cases of beer in a 24-hour period at the time of the offences.
Magistrate Beth Campbell continued Papalii's bail at Thursday's hearing. The matter will appear in the higher court early next month.
