Pietersen, along with current Australian players Ben Cutting and Daniel Christian, were among those to blow up at the prospect at having to play the final of the domestic Twenty20 competition at Manuka Oval on January 29 next year.

Cricket Australia and Cricket ACT are expecting the match to be a sell-out of 14,000 fans, adding to what is already a sensational summer of cricket in Canberra.

It's the first time the BBL final will be held at a neutral venue, with scheduling issues because of a heavy international schedule and the World Cup causing the change.

Pietersen will play in the competition this summer for the first time with the Melbourne Stars and expressed his surprise at Canberra getting the nod.

In a series of tweets, Pietersen said he had, ''been there twice! Don't want a 3rd" and it's good if you, ''enjoy staring at walls and watching paint dry for entertainment!''

"Hold on, have I just read this correct? The final of the Big Bash will be played in Canberra?!?!'' Pietersen wrote.

"It's OK, there's more happening there than in, #BoringBoringBrisbane!''

When told Canberra was home to sporting stars such as NBA champion Patty Mills, tennis player Nick Kyrgios, ex-formula one driver Mark Webber and Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon, Pietersen replied, ''OK, I like it now! All top lads!''

Christian, who has played 19 one-day and 15 Twenty20 internationals for Australia, lamented the switch, which could have Pietersen taking on Melbourne Renegades master blaster Aaron Finch at Manuka Oval instead of the MCG.

"So potentially, instead of Stars v Renegades in front of 70k at MCG, Finch v KP will be in Canberra,'' Christian wrote.

Brisbane Heat all-rounder Cutting was also disappointed the final would be in Canberra.

"Capacity of what? 14,000? for one of the biggest and best T20 competitions in the world ... #excitingtimes,'' Cutting wrote.

However, there was a positive response from a couple of Canberra products.

Australia and Sydney Sixers spinner Lyon posted, ''Exciting news for Cricket ACT hosting the BBL4 final! Sixers look forward to playing there :)! #greatvenue #excitingtimes.''

ACT Comets captain Jono Dean, who plays for the Adelaide Strikers, wrote, ''Honestly, I can't really complain 'bout the BBL final at Manuka. Suits me. Now it's time to knuckle down and get there.''

Canberra will also host the one-day international between Australia and South Africa on November 19, three matches of the World Cup in February and March and the PM's XI game against England on January 14.
