The National Gallery of Australia's Renaissance exhibition will close next weekend, with extended opening hours announced for those hoping to catch a last glimpse of the Italian masterpieces over Easter.

A spokesman for the gallery said that about 180,000 tickets had been sold for ''Renaissance'' since it had opened on December 9, and while that was well down on the previous blockbuster impressionist and post-impressionist exhibitions, the gallery was pleased with the result.
Next weekend the exhibition will open from 9am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday, with the last entry available at 8pm, and will close finally at 5pm on April 9.
The paintings are on loan from the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo in Italy and include pieces from greats including Raphael, Botticelli and Titian.
The spokesman said the Giovan Moroni's Portrait of a child of the house of Redetti, a painting of a four-year-old girl, had consistantly proved the most popular painting in the exhibition. The NGA also announced that Carl Schmidt was the nine millionth visitor to its travelling exhibitions when, earlier this month, he went to see Australian portraits 1880-1960 at Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum in Queensland.
The NGA has been running its travelling exhibition program in all the Australian states and territories since 1988.
