Mr Jones settled his drawn-out dispute with the rugby club over his dismissal last month but he continued his case against the University of Canberra and several others in the ACT Supreme Court.
He's alleging they pressured the board to stand him down for blowing the whistle on financial irregularities with the sale of land at Griffith.
The KPMG report at the centre of the dispute remains under a suppression order and part of an ongoing AFP investigation.
It's understood to detail transactions at the Brumbies between 2009 and 2013 relating to the sale of the club's former Griffith headquarters and subsequent move to the University of Canberra.
Lawyers for former Labor deputy chief minister David Lamont returned to court this week in an attempt to subpoena numerous groups and individuals for emails and other documents that showed Mr Jones circulated the report.
Defence barrister Jack Pappas told the court on Tuesday there was reason to suspect the litigation by Mr Jones was being carried out for an ulterior purpose, and could represent an abuse of process.
He has also indicated he's hoping for the case against Mr Lamont to be struck out, arguing the entire claim against his client was "a sham from the start".
Justice Richard Refshauge on Wednesday gave permission for amended subpoenas to be issued to Mr Jones, the Brumbies, Opposition Leader Jeremy Hanson, NewsCorp and The Australian, and a journalist from that newspaper.
Subpoenas will also be served on Fairfax Media and the Canberra Times, and on three journalists including this reporter, Kirsten Lawson and Christopher Knaus.
Justice Refshauge knocked back an attempt to subpoena Mr Jones' lawyer Rory Markham and his firm, who had protested the move on grounds of lawyer-client privilege.
