Fiona Tregoning, a friend of Liberal candidate Steve Doszpot's daughter Amy, says she was sitting holding a Steve Doszpot campaign sign when the car approached and she got up from her table and ran for fear of being hit.
Ms Tregoning had recently fractured her leg and had only started walking without crutches five days ago, so running had caused her considerable pain.
Ms Tregoning says a woman aged about in her early 60s then got out of the white Subaru and verbally abused her, identifying herself as a lawyer and saying the volunteers should not be situated there.
The two women had a heated argument before the woman in the car drove away.
"She had no right to do that, she had no grounds to do that at all," Ms Tregoning said.
After going home to rest her foot Ms Tregoning will be back at the booth later this afternoon, but says she is not sure if she will volunteer again.
"Whenever a car's pulling up at the kerb, I'm thinking, what are they going to do," she said.
A Canberra Liberals spokesperson has issued a statement calling for volunteers to be treated with dignity and respect.
ACT Policing have been notified of the incident.
