While Erica slept through most of the two-hour wildflower walk near Mount Majura, her parents Vanessa Haverd and Matthew Hole enjoyed a guided tour of beautiful and rare Canberra blooms led by CSIRO plant ecologist Michael Doherty and organised by Park Care group Friends of Mount Majura.
''We were just inspired also by the fact that we've lived here for a few years and really enjoy the park, and thought it's time to get involved with Friends of Mount Majura a bit more,'' Ms Haverd said.
''We saw dozens of different species in flowering state, which was really nice, and they were the sort of things you wouldn't really notice if you were just out on your own and didn't really know about them.''
As for baby Erica, ''She didn't have any objections,'' her mum said.
Friends of Mount Majura founder Waltraud Pix said the walks were a good way to showcase some of the effort that's gone into caring for the area, and highlight some of the work that still needs to be done.
Ms Pix said there were 25 people along on the walk, and they were treated to a display of an endangered type of daisy - the Hoary Sunray - in full bloom.
''Mount Majura and Mount Ainslie have probably the largest populations. Particularly we find a lot of them on the north-west slopes, where they are flowering at the moment profusely,'' she said.
''Our walks are very popular. The more important thing is that people appreciate what's there.''
While the group has put a lot of work into weeding and reintroducing native species, Ms Pix said their efforts were being hampered by large mobs of kangaroos, which she believed had been driven to the area in bigger numbers by the construction of the Majura Parkway.
The Friends of Mount Majura's 10th anniversary will be celebrated on November 17. Ms Pix said would be a great opportunity to show off photos of how much the Mount Majura reserve has improved since the group began its work.
''[We'll] go up to the old sheep camp on the ridge and hopefully warm up the new seating benches there, and have some champagne and the birthday cake,'' she said.
