ACT SES volunteers and crews from ACT Fire and Rescue attended to mostly leaking roofs and window sills with two jobs relating to damaged trees in a widespread area of Canberra.
Many Canberrans awoke to heavy rain on Sunday as a low pressure system deepened along the NSW South Coast.
More than 13mm of rain was recorded between midnight and 9am – but not enough to stop competitors in the November Fest triathlon competing near Acton.
Weatherzone meteorologist Sam Brown said Sunday was one of the coldest days in Canberra this month although the overnight temperature was relatively high.
"We had a top of about 18 degrees which was 5 degrees below the November average, so a little cooler than we've seen in recent weeks," he said.
"The overnight temperature into Sunday was a little warmer at 13.9 degrees which was 5 degrees above the November average."
Mr Brown said Monday would bring a top 23 degrees with clear skies and temperatures were forecast to gradually increase through the week to a top of 29 degrees on Thursday.
Strong and gusty westerly winds hit much of eastern NSW on Sunday and reached gale-force on the Southern and Central Tablelands, and Illawarra districts in the later morning and afternoon.
The State Emergency Service said it had received about 190 calls for assistance across Sydney on Sunday and a further 90 around NSW. "Most of those have been for roof damage caused by falling branches," a spokeswoman said.
Ben McBurney, a meteorologist at the Fairfax-owned Weatherzone service, said the winds were "just below damaging strength" of about 90km/h.
Mr McBurney said the winds were brought by a low pressure system moving off the coast after bringing rain over the southern part of the state.
Winds in Canberra were not as strong as surrounding regions with winds north to north-westerly at 15 to 20 km/h turning gusty westerly 25 to 40 km/h around the middle of the day.
Monday was forecast to be mostly sunny with light winds becoming westerly 15 to 25 km/h in the morning then becoming light in the evening.
The ACT Rural Fire Service said Sunday's scheduled hazard reduction burn at Richardson had been postponed due to weather conditions.
Mr Brown said there was a slight chance of showers on Friday and Saturday morning although any rainfall would be light and less than 1-2mm.
