The mostly local protest was sparked by the latest allegations of cruelty to Australian animals shipped overseas, with Egyptian abattoir workers accused this month of brutally slaughtering cattle sent there from Australia.
Protest organiser Claire O'Sullivan said she and her colleagues would accept no outcome short of a full ban on live exports from this country.
''Once they leave this country these animals are just no longer under our protection,'' Ms O'Sullivan said.
