The man from Moorebank, who was driving with a license disqualified until 2035, was spotted speeding on the Hume Highway near Goulburn around 9.45pm.
Police attempted to stop the car near Mount Grey although the driver sped away from officers who then engaged in a high-speed pursuit of the vehicle for 30 kilometres.
The driver eventually collided with a railing at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Highland Way and abandoned his car to flee on foot.
After arresting the man a short time later, officers returned to the man’s car to find a six-year-old boy in the back seat without a seat belt.
The boy was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for treatment for minor injuries and a relative was contacted to collect him.
The 28-year-old Moorebank man was charged with failing to stop for police, driving without a valid license, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, driving with an unrestrained child in the car, negligence and dangerous driving.
The man has been remanded in custody and will appear before the Goulburn Local Court on August 13.
