An ACT Policing spokeswoman confirmed a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Craig Joseph Stevens, with search efforts being carried out on Saturday.
Stevens ran from the courtroom shortly after the jury had left, in the case being held before Justice David Mossop.
Security guards attempted to chase down Stevens after his escape from the courtroom but were unsuccessful.
In the hours before his escape, Stevens took to Facebook to write "sitting at court awaiting the jurys final verdict and i tell ya iv got everything crossed" (sic).
Following the escape by Stevens, family members commented on his Facebook post appealing for information.
"His mother and I are very worried. Any news please," one family member wrote.
Another said: "Craig you are stressing your family out please contact your dad this is not helping".
The police spokeswoman would not comment further when asked about the search for Stevens.
Police are appealing for anyone with further information to come forward.
