Emeka Okwechime was on a good behaviour order for previous weapons charges when police raided his home in April last year to find a cache of weapons, that included the loaded shotgun, a stun gun, two extendable batons, knuckle duster, and air rifle.

The 28-year-old was charged with six weapons offences, and granted bail in court.

Police raided the property again in November to find two crossbows, ammunition, and cannabis hidden in the lounge room and garage.

He was charged with a further four offences as a result.

During police interviews after the raids, Okwechime claimed the cannabis and crossbows belonged to friends who had left them at his home.

But he said he had the shotgun, stun gun, and knuckle dusters as protection against members of an outlaw motorcycle gang who he had previously fought with.

Okwechime pleaded guilty to all 10 charges and appeared for sentence in the ACT Supreme Court on Friday.

Court documents said the loaded shotgun had been found in the lounge room, but the stun gun, batons, and knuckle duster had been located in a bedside table in the main bedroom where the child slept.

His defence barrister, Alyn Doig, said his client had a long criminal history involving weapons and drugs offences, and breaches of court orders.

But Mr Doig said his client's fear for the loss of his family – telling the court the child could be taken into care – had been a wakeup call.

"Sometimes people take longer than others to grow up," Mr Doig said.

He asked Justice Burns to take the view that there his client had a "glimmer of hope".

But prosecutor Dean Sahu Khan said the offenders repeated breaches and offences meant a jail term would be appropriate.

Acting Justice John Burns will hand down his sentence later this month.

Justice Burns also formally recorded convictions to the charges – at Mr Doig's request – so the offender could shift into the sentenced prisoner stream and begin rehabilitation.
