Mark Anthony Munro, 52, was on Tuesday sentenced in the ACT Supreme Court on charges of aggravated robbery and intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm.
A jury earlier this year found Munro, of Campbell, guilty of helping another man rob a Chubb armoured van outside the Mawson Club in daylight in May 2004.
The pair made off with about $151,000, but not before Munro shot guard Kevin Matangi in the face and chest with a shotgun.
Mr Matangi survived but still has more than a dozen shotgun pellets in his body.
Justice John Nield on Tuesday sentenced Munro to 18 years behind bars, backdated to take into account time spent in custody, with a non-parole period of 13 years.
He will be eligible for release on December 18, 2025, at the age of 65.
In handing down sentence, Justice Nield described the shooting as cowardly, cold-blooded and unnecessary.
He said the shooting was “separate and distinct” to the robbery as it occurred after the raid had been completed.
The judge said it was a serious example of both offences and the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm was towards the top end of the range.
Munro continues to maintain his innocence and is expected to appeal the decision.
