I have to confess that I’ve not been within a bull’s roar of the new Cotter Dam. Nor to the precinct since the fires because of those many memories of yesteryear and no real need to see the destruction nor the rebuild. It must be impressive, after all it cost a motza and according to the team from the Bulk Water Alliance on hand for the awards presentations for Engineers Australia Excellence Awards this project achieved, we are ‘water insured’ for a long time. Fire insured in that neck of the woods ... well, we're not so sure.
Joining the water boys for an excellence award was the Royal Australian Mint for the Southern Sky Crux Curved Coin, part of the very popular collector coins our mint is renowned for. As a 99.9% silver full colour printed curved coin it is the first of its kind in the world and definitely not one for the vending machines.
There was a highly commended prize this year and it was about water works too with the Murrumbidgee to Googong Water Transfer Project acknowledged for the complexitiy of providing water security for Canberra’s water supply.
