An Emergency Services Agency spokesperson said the 60 square metre fire did not threaten nearby homes.

Firefighters were at the scene as of 7.50am and spent several hours breaking up the mulch to extinguish the smouldering fire before dousing the area with foam and water, the spokesperson said.

The fire had been extinguished by 1.20pm.

Two Fire and Rescue pumpers, two compressed air foam trucks, two commanders and three ACT Rural Fire Service crews attended the scene.

The site will be monitored over the next few days.
