Canberra's first contestants on My Kitchen Rules Andrew Hinge and Emelia Vimalasiri were officially unveiled at an industry function at the National Arboretum on Thursday night, saying they were already being recognised despite the fact the show had yet to go to air.

Hinge, a graphic designer, in particular, has been asked by perfect strangers to repeat his now-famous catchphrase of ''awesome'', featured on the high-rotation promos for the cooking show, which returns to Prime on Monday.
''We're getting stopped on the street at the moment, especially people asking Andrew to say 'awesome','' Vimalasiri said, with a laugh.
''This security guard at Sydney airport said, 'Hey, you're that guy from TV. Say it. Say it','' Hinge said.
''We also get recognised at places like Fyshwick markets when people say, 'Hey, you guys are on TV, that cooking show'.'' The couple, at the meet-and-greet function organised by Prime, showed their stuff cooking in front of the crowd, calling their delicacy ''morsels of happiness'' - deep-fried spring rolls wrapped into a cone with a vermicelli noodle salad and pork.
''It's the first real recipe we've truly collaborated on,'' Hinge said.
Their Canberra segment was filmed back in spring, showing the couple doing their home restaurant segment at Vimalasiri's Ainslie home and shopping for produce at Fyshwick and Dickson.
''I think we're really excited,'' Vimalasiri said. ''I think it's going to be amazing seeing ourselves on TV and watching it all. We really want Canberra to get in on it and support us in our journey.
''I think Andrew and I both have personalities that are out-there and it's really great for people to see what we've been doing.''
Vimalasiri, the business development manager for the Canberra Convention Bureau, and Hinge, who works at the Fresh Creative agency in Queanbeyan, are planning on starting a food blog soon. And they hope their stint on MKR shows Canberra has a thriving foodie scene.
