A neighbour's quick thinking may have saved a man and a woman whose stove caught alight in north Canberra on Monday afternoon.

The Emergency Services Authority said firefighters forced entry into a Dickson home after the neighbour called triple-0 shortly after 1pm.
Crews discovered food alight on the stove and quickly extinguished it. A search of the the Karuah Street unit uncovered a man and woman asleep in an upstairs bedroom.
They were assessed by intensive care paramedics at the scene and taken to Calvary Hospital for medical conditions unrelated to the fire.
