Young Canberra drivers are still not learning the dangers of partying before getting behind the wheel and parents appear to be doing less driving education with their children, says a long-time territory driving instructor.

Greg Austin said he has had to refuse students lessons because they had quite obviously been drinking alcohol the night before.
''There needs to be more awareness about drugs and alcohol; it all goes back to education,'' he said.
Mr Austin, who can spend all day on Canberra roads with students, said experienced drivers were not setting a good example either. He said he more often than not saw other drivers texting when his car was stopped at the traffic lights.
Driving instructors seemed to be doing more of the teaching these days, he said, because many parents underestimated their own skills and thought they had bad driving habits.
ACT Policing has continued taking a mangled car around to schools and the Canberra Show.
The Lexus, involved in a crash laced with speed and alcohol with four Australian Defence Force Academy cadets inside, looks so smashed it appears as though no one could have survived.
Three did, however. One, the driver, ended up in prison. Two others had brain damage. The fourth person died.
