Google Trends offers the interested two metrics for most searched terms: top and rising. Top tracks the most popular topics, while rising reveals related topics with the biggest search increase.
Pokemon Go, a location-based mobile phone game, recorded the highest increase in search frequency for the ACT.
The virtual reality game invites players to catch Pokemon "in the real world" and was hugely popular upon its release in July.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Donald Trump came second in rising topics, up 1100 per cent. The US election and Mr Trump made two appearances in Google Trends' most searched topics and three in the most searched queries.
Movie streaming website Movies123 ranked third and arcade game Slither.io fourth for rising queries.
Census ranked a surprising ninth and Japanese animation streaming website KissAnime received a mention at 19.
The top topic, however, was a little more yawn-inducing, with Canberrans most frequently Googling Canberra.
Facebook was the most searched term in Australia, followed by Google, weather, YouTube, news and Hotmail.
The Northern Territory recorded perhaps the most intriguing searches. While Pokemon Go and Donald Trump received the obligatory listings, animated pornography genre hentai made an appearance in the territory's top ten, as did former general secretary of the Communist Party of China Jiang Zemin.
