Police hunt for ute driver after Canberra Avenue burnouts

The driver of a black Holden ute was seen speeding through bus lanes, running a red light and performing burnouts on Canberra Avenue on Thursday morning.

Police say the car, which had NSW licence plates, performed a burnout at the intersection of Canberra Avenue and Ipswich Street in Fyshwick around 6.45am.

The car then travelled at high speed in the bus lane on Canberra Avenue towards Queanbeyan, before running a red light at Geelong Street.

The car was seen performing another burnout at the Tom Price Street intersection.

Police said many people witnessed the dangerous driving, but have called for further assistance locating the driver.

"The driver’s actions put himself and others in extreme danger, and could have easily caused a serious accident,” a police spokesman said.
