Shoalhaven Local Area Command acting inspector Scott Nelson said while officers did not expect much schoolies activity in Ulladulla, a number of teenagers often rented houses on the outskirts of town.

He said there were often groups who celebrated in Manyana, Bendalong and Kioloa.

"So there's no issues in the city itself but if we do get reports of kids in rentals drinking, we'll send a crew out there to monitor it for underage drinking and if there is, we'll take action," he said.

"[But] from experience in the past, we don't have many problems."

Youth Coalition of the ACT director Emma Robertson said schoolies' celebrations were not as big in the ACT as they were elsewhere, mostly due to the staggered finishing times of public and private schools.

"Where we see people going out and partying, who might be less experienced because they've just turned 18, is around the kind of formal season and that certainly has an impact in the city and so forth," she said.

Inspector Nelson said police had been in touch with real estate agents in the area to co-ordinate and work out how many young people were renting houses on the coast.

He said any young people who were heading to the coast to celebrate the end of school should act responsibly.

"If they're drinking, don't drive – if they're 18 years of age, look at your licensing restrictions, because at some levels you can have no alcohol reading. If you are going to go out make sure you have a designated driver who isn't drinking," Inspector Nelson said.

"If they are 18, be responsible with your drinking and, obviously, we don't condone the use of drugs."

"People should look after their mates when they go out, make sure they go out with other people and have a plan to get home. Keep an eye on each other when their out and when they're leaving, make sure everyone is with them," she said.
