Canberra's renowned big heart has again been revealed with the community donating not one, not two but 23 roosters to the school after last week's Great Rooster Robbery of 2013.
Principal Jo Padgham said she was astounded by the reaction.
''Out of adversity came absolute joy,'' she said. ''It really does show the beautiful nature of this community.''
Five of the school's six roosters were stolen some time between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, the padlock on the rooster house jimmied open. The school's prized Chicken of the Century, Salt, was spared. (Salt won the prestigious title in a Centenary of Canberra competition earlier this year.)
Ms Padgham said the first offer of replacement roosters came on Saturday morning while she was having her coffee.
A woman from Ainslie donated two roosters. Another woman donated another rooster. And a third breeder who usually supplies the school with its roosters gave 20 chicks, which were happily growing under lights at the school, to the delight of the children.
''So we lost five and we've received 23,'' she said.
The roosters were cared for by children at the school, which also has students with disabilities.
Ms Padgham said the theft of the roosters was still playing on the mind of some students.
''Some of the children keep asking, 'Jo, do you think the roosters are coming back?''' she said.
''Other children are a bit more pragmatic and say, 'No, I reckon they went to a restaurant.'
''I don't think anybody at Turner Primary had chicken on the menu over the weekend.''
