Nearly 50 fires in the eastern half of NSW were being controlled or under control on Tuesday, with no watch and act or emergency warnings.
A Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster said a light north-easterly wind would continue throughout the night, with a frosty and hazy Wednesday morning expected for the nation’s capital, but relief from the smoke would arrive before lunch.
“A westerly of about 15 kilometres per hour to 20km/h is expected to be there about 10am or 11am, so by midday we can expect that smoke to be clear or coming less significant,” the forecaster said.
Smoke from South Coast fires could make a return to the city’s skies near dusk on Wednesday.
