Mr Macleod's photo ''Snake Frog'' has taken out first prize in The Canberra Times Spring photo competition.
Mr Macleod, who has volunteered at Tidbinbilla nature reserve for the past five years, attributes his win to "a case of being in the right place at the right time''.
"I'm a volunteer at Tidbinbilla and I always carry my camera with me when I'm walking around the sanctuary there," Mr Macleod said.
"I just came onto the boardwalk and saw the snake. It appeared to having something in front of it, in its mouth … when I got closer I saw the frog. Once I got closer to get the photo the snake noticed me and dragged the frog off the boardwalk."
Mr Macleod regularly uploads photos from his time at Tidbinbilla to the online photo hosting site, Flickr. A friend suggested he enter the photo into the competition.
Mr Macleod will receive $500 for his winning entry. Richard Wood, who took out second place with his entry ''Kid Throwing'' will receive $300. Emily Zeng will receive $200 for her entry ''Night Sky'', which took out third place.
