As the blossoms began to bloom on a tree just outside granddaughter Jasmin's room in Dunlop, marking the beginning of spring, Barbara Mecham noticed an unmissable photo opportunity.

The picture is of Bo the cat, sitting restfully in his favourite tree and makes up just one of the pictures sent as part of The Canberra Times spring photo competition.
While the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a cooler than usual spring with a 70 per cent chance of exceeding median rainfall for October-December, it will provide a good opportunity for amateur photographers to take some excellent photos for the competition.
Mrs Mecham couldn't believe her luck when Bo made his way up the tree and to the perfect spot for the picture.
"It's his favourite tree, he always climbs it. My granddaughter Jasmin lets him out for a couple of hours a day and he's always there."
An entry by Margo Wade shows her dog Skyla braving icy cold conditions to have a dip in the water.
"We had a lot of rain last week but our dog Skyla was still keen to go for a walk and a swim. She loves the water and is only too pleased that winter is over and summer's on its way," Mrs Wade said.
Like many photographers at this time of year, Indra Adams turned her lens on Floriade, enjoying one of the few nice spring days so far.
"It was a beautiful spring day and these fairies dusted the tulips with fairy dust."
Amateur photographers from around Canberra are invited to send in their pictures of spring before the competition closes on November 31 for their chance to win up to $1000 worth of prizes.
