The alleged fight started about 10.30pm last Thursday night in the bathroom of a hotel on Auburn Street in Goulburn.
Police said in the fight, a 21-year-old man was punched multiple times in the head, before he fell to the floor where he was repeatedly kicked. He was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for treatment.
A subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old student from Tweed Heads at the Police Academy on Monday, who has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has been excluded as a student from the academy, and will face Goulburn Local Court later this month.
