The former lecturer, Arthur Marshall Hoyle, 67, is facing trial in the ACT Supreme Court this week following accusations from five students that he inappropriately touched them and raped one in April 2015.

He has pleaded not guilty, and denies the allegations.

There were concerns at the university around that time that the business law essay question had been uploaded onto a site that offered to write essays for money.

Hoyle was looking into the students' papers, and he had invited five students over email to his office to discuss their work.

Prosecutors say it was in these meetings that the crimes happened.

On Wednesday, the last of five complainants gave evidence. The woman, who Fairfax Media will call Ms M, told the court via videolink from a remote room that she met with Hoyle twice.

The first time, on April 23, she said Hoyle had raised her paper's high URKUND score with her and said he could report it to the university and that she could be excluded from study for one year.

URKUND, the court has heard, is the university's text-matching software that analyses an essay and produces a percentage score saying how much it matches other online documents and student essays.

The student said she had already failed the subject three times. She said Hoyle had asked her whether she had copied another student's assignment, or if she had visited cheat sites, and she said no.

"He just keep mentioning, he can make a report and I can be excluded [from university]," she said. "I was really worried so I nearly cried."

She said he had touched her on the knee, and had said to her, "You can suggest me something, what would you like to suggest?"

"At first I thought he was trying to be nice because I was crying but he didn't stop touching my knee so I feel uncomfortable," she said.

On the second occasion, on April 29, the student was again in Hoyle's office, this time about 8pm. Again her high URKUND score was raised.

It was in this meeting that he had raped her, she said.

Ms M told the court that afterwards, "he said, 'Don't worry, we can be friends', and then, 'Study hard', and he said I can come anytime if I need to ask about the business law."

Prosecutor Trent Hickey asked the student how she had felt leaving the office that second time. "I was feeling disappointed to myself and frustrated and then sad, scared, just everything," she said.

In cross-examination, defence barrister Liesl Chapman SC suggested to the witness that Hoyle had never touched her, which she denied.

Ms Chapman: "You were worried about failing the subject yet again?"

The witness: "Yes."

And you knew if you failed again you were at risk of expulsion? - Yeah.

You didn't want that to happen? - No.

You were on a visa? - Yes.

If you were expelled you would have to go home? - I wasn't sure.

Your parents had paid a lot of money for you to go to university in Australia? - Yeah.

Asked why she had gone to Hoyle's office alone at 8pm when she said he had touched her inappropriately at the first meeting, Ms M told the court she was worried he would report her to the university, and she wanted to discuss the paper before it became too late.

Against the five complainants, Hoyle faces a total eight counts of an act of indecency and two of sexual intercourse without consent.
