Fifteen-year-old Alfred Deakin High School student Nikki Pinter may be Australia's biggest fan of Suzanne Collins' best-selling sci-fi trilogy.
That is why her physical education teacher was not shocked to find her crying after she learnt she would soon visit the set and meet the cast of Hunger Games 2 - the second film adaptation of the popular series.
Nikki, who is completing year 9, was one of the first in line to see the first film when it premiered and was recently announced as the only Australian winner of the international short film competition, Catching Fire Sets Sweepstakes.
Her 30-second ''stop-start'' animation titled I want to visit the set of Hunger Games: Catching Fire is her second attempt at video production and follows finishing as a runner-up in last year's Canberra Milk Kid competition.
The video, which she filmed and edited using a self-timer and tripod, shows Nikki in full battle regalia, training with knives in case she is ever called up to play in the Hunger Games or ''reaped'', as it is known in the books and movies.
The Hunger Games follows the story of 16-year-old Katniss who uses her hunting skills to survive the ''hunger games'' and lead a post-apocalyptic revolution.
Together with her mother, Nikki will embark on an all-expenses paid week-long trip to the United States and will be on set with her idol Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence, and crush Peeta Mellark, the character portrayed by Josh Hutcherson. Nikki is such a fan of Hutcherson she has set up her Twitter account as homage to him.
While many teenage girls pepper conversations with boy band and brooding vampire references, Nikki admits she isn't a ''Directioner'' or a ''Twihard''. But her love of reading got her hooked on Hunger Games. She said her passion for the pop cultural phenomenon will continue until the final film is released some time before she graduates.
