She is this year celebrating the 10th anniversary of creating her business, the range quickly picked up by outlets around Australia.

Alex grew up in Canberra, went to ANU and spent eight years travelling and working across south west China, Tibet, and south east Asia in the lead up to the creation of Polka Luka in 2006.

She has also completed special commissions, including for the National Gallery of Australia.

Most recently, she created a gold-themed jewellery line now for sale in the National Museum of Australia's shop to coincide with its A History of the World in 100 Objects from the British Museum.

She's reintroduced apparel to the Polka Luka line and created a new silver jewellery label, called Studio Luna, which comprises jewellery sourced from around the world as well as that created by Freeman.

"With Studio Luna, we wanted to offer more delicate and romantic jewellery, compared to the bolder and more colourful statements that Polka Luka makes," Alex said.

And there's also her traditional annual pop-up store, at The Front Gallery in the Lyneham shops, running from next Thursday, November 17 to Thursday, December 22.

It was actually at the pop-up shop two years ago that she was introduced to a friend of a friend - her now partner Pravin, the reason she moved back to Canberra.

They've set up digs in Belconnen, with Alex continuing to oversee production of her pieces in workshops in Bali.

"That's the beauty of these kinds of businesses. It doesn't matter where you are," she said.

"But I do just love the environment of Canberra. If I can see blue skies and big mountains, I just get a lot more inspired."

Alex says she wants to continue to "push the boundaries of what we can do with resin", either in its shape or colours, including moving into non-traditional gold and silver.

Reaching a decade of business in the fickle world of fashion was a hard-won achievement.

"Without a doubt, it's a challenge and I actually think the government should do more to help small businesses," she said.
