Thousands of people braved Canberra's thick morning fog to run in the Mother's Day Classic on Sunday morning.

The fun run, starting from Rond Terrace at Lake Burley Griffin, has been raising money for cancer research for the past 16 years.
Nearly 8000 runners took part in the event, after participating en masse in a pre-run aerobic warm-up.
The first female across the line was Canberra runner Hannah Flannery, while Ethiopian-born runner Gemechu Woyecha won the men's race.
The event - run by Women in Super - was held in 74 locations, with more than 130,000 participants Australia-wide.
Organisers expect to raise more than $4 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, according to Mother's Day Classic national chairwoman Louise Davidson.
''As well as raising funds for breast cancer research, the Mother's Day Classic provides an opportunity to honour and support those affected by the disease,'' she said.
''It also serves as a powerful reminder to us all of the importance of early detection.''
Local organiser Kate Wood said attendance in Canberra was up nearly 40 per cent on 2012 and ACT participants had raised well over $100,000 for research into breast cancer.
''It was fabulous morning, a terrific crowd, unbelievable atmosphere and lots of enjoyment, and lots of tragic stories as well,'' she said.
Ms Wood said when she helped to start the event, in the late 1990s, Women in Super were told no one would want to do a fun run on Mother's Day, but it had since become a tradition for many families.
The foggy start did not deter runners, she said, with plenty of people signing up on the day.
''Lots of people are touched by breast cancer; nearly everyone has friends or family who have it,'' she said.
