Satellite citizens are expected to benefit from $2 million allocated to ACTION over the next two years to provide weekend bus services to Molongolo, Harrison, Casey and West Macgregor.
Some $6.4million has also been allocated to meet ACTION’s cost of operations.
ACTION staff levels are expected to increase from 837 full-time equivalents to 847 over the 2014-2015 year.
This is to cover the additional weekend services and the Network 14 initiative, which is intended to streamline existing routes, improve service frequency in areas of high demand and provide bus services into newer suburbs.
Income from bus fares is expected to rise by $1.8million in 2014-2015 due to an anticipated increase in patronage and higher fares introduced at the start of this year.
A single trip for an adult is $4.50 or $2.20 concession, while day tickets are $8.60 and $4.30 respectively.
Some $6.5million has been allocated over the next two years to replace underground fuel-storage tanks at the Tuggeranong bus depot with an alternative fuel store.
People travelling to and from Canberra, Yass and Melbourne are expected to welcome a $10 million spend on the intersection of William Slim Drive and the Barton Highway near Hall during the next three years.
About $1.6million will also be spent on strengthening bridges on the Barton and Monaro highways to cope with larger and heavier traffic.
Another big-ticket item is $9.8million, to be spent over the next two years, for the Majura Parkway to Majura Road link road.
This will provide direct access to Majura West, the site of the Ikea development.
Pedestrians and cyclists are to benefit from $4.8 million for walking and cycling paths that will improve connectivity between transport, schools and other facilities.
