Trevor Robinson has a novel solution he reckons would make reckless drivers think twice before they wreaked havoc on Canberra's roads.

"I would encourage everyone who drives stupidly, as part of their fine, to be confined to a wheelchair for one month," he said.
"It will change their driving attitude, I'm sure, because they'll see the frustration."
Mr Robinson, 52, a paraplegic, has come to know the challenges of being in a wheelchair all too well.
His life changed in an instant when his motorbike collided with a turning car less than 500 metres from his Duffy home in July 2008.
The father-of-four spent the next 11 months in hospital, and when he emerged he had to navigate home modifications, new equipment and changed relationships.
He said while many road safety campaigns warned dangerous drivers they risked death, not as much was said about those who survived with life-altering injuries.
"There is a lot of concentration on fatalities and I understand that fatalities are serious.
"But there are a lot more injured people and it adversely influences their life, their family's life and their community for a lifetime."
Mr Robinson said while he was active and independent before the crash, he now depended on others to mow his lawn, hang pictures and carry out any work that needed to be done around the house.
"You're always relying on someone else. Freedom is lost in a lot of ways."
"Relationships, on a deeply personal level, change significantly, and I no longer can participate in a lot of the things that my children do," he said.
Mr Robinson had two pieces of advice for drivers:
"The first is, don't mix up your capabilities with your abilities. You're not as good as you think you are.
"The second is, what is the rush? If it takes you another five minutes you save on fuel, wear and tear on your car and, importantly, you may save a life."
Part of the motorbike Mr Robinson was driving when he crashed will be on display as ACT Policing push a strong road safety message at the Royal Canberra Show.
Acting officer in charge of traffic operations Tracey Duck said there would also be the crumpled wreckage of a car caused by a driver who spun out of control and hit a tree in wet weather.
"It's to show if you don't driving to the conditions, this could happen to you. Or if you're distracted, this could happen to you. If you take your eyes off the road for three seconds this could potentially happen to you."
