Public servant Camm Gibson thought he'd found the perfect present for his girlfriend's birthday, but after days of fruitless searching across the state, he's now appealing to Gumtree to save his bacon.
The ad reads, "I am willing to pay someone to let my girlfriend hang out with their piglet for an hour or so. Maybe take it for a walk. Or eat it for lunch. I mean eat lunch with it."
Mr Gibson said he had been busily calling hobby farms and farmstays across the ACT and NSW in search of the one thing he says his girlfriend of two years, Fiorella, wants - to hug a pig.
"She has decided she has a fondness for pigs and piglets in general, and she has the need to hug one, which she has expressed to me on a number of occasions," he said.
"So I thought with her birthday coming up I'd do what I could to make her wish come true."
But Mr Gibson said after checking every farmstay and petting zoo within 500 kilometres of the ACT he was unable to find a single adorable snout.
So in desperation he turned to Gumtree, creating the advertisement and originally offering $50 for a chance to meet a pig, although now he's pushed it up to $100.
"I checked every farmstay place... I called or emailed and I basically asked if they had any pigs, not even just piglets and I expected it to be pretty easy," he said.
"But it turns out it's not very easy, at least not farms that are open to the public - plenty of farms with horses and llama and sheep but no pigs."
Mr Gibson said he had wanted to get his girlfriend a present that was a bit out of the ordinary.
"I think it's easy to find any present but it's more difficult to find imaginative presents and I think an imaginative present shows you put more thought into it and that you car," he said.
"So I like to try to find something that's not run of the mill."
His advertisement has had 170 visits so far, but no luck as yet. Despite Fiorella's birthday falling on Thursday, Mr Gibson said he hasn't given up hope of being able to give her a belated gift.
"It would have to be a good pig though," he said. "An accommodating piglet."
